Exceeds expectations to a huge degree!
I got MPM Ironhide last year. Terrible figure. Joints too tight, joints too loose, parts that felt scary fragile, and nothing locking in on the mess of a torso.
Starscream has NONE OF THOSE THINGS. Transformation feels GREAT for a figure this huge and complex. Sturdy plastic that grips pegs really nicely. Excellent ratchet joints in the legs, and metal feet, to offset the topheavy proportions. Poseability is fantastic, lacking only a bicep swivel. The back looks as good as the front. Nearly every single part has a place to go in both modes. The pectoral chunks are hanging off the jet mode, but that's forgivable.
The transformation is difficult, however. Unintuitive. Especially the arms/chest. Do not give this to a little kid. I am an adult collector who's bought thousands of robots, and I still needed to watch a Youtube video to help me get him back into jet mode the first time. Thank goodness the figure feels sturdy enough that you can fumble around and not worry you're going to break anything.
Movie Starscream is an ugly design. But this toy is so well-engineered, it actually makes him gorgeous. Best Movie Masterpiece figure they've made, hands down.
