A Real Surprise
I had some mixed feelings about purchasing the movie, but in the end I was glad I'd seen it. A comedy about Nazis is a touchy subject for most people, but this one proved to be an exception to the rule, and my misgivings gave way to a degree of admiration for the writers, production staff, and performers. I know this is not a film that cannot be offensive to everyone, but I felt it did it adequately make some points about growing up and getting over fantasies that can get out of hand. Jojo definitely got over Herr Hitler, but I was getting worried. He paid a price for his obsessions, but the moral lessons were learned.
I can't recommend this for everyone: neither my parents generation or many of my own, but the next generation could benefit, especially if they'd take it a step further and actually read some history.
