'As Long As You Are' looks to the past as well as the future, confronting old ghosts and embracing a new hope. It is an album about trust, full of honesty, redemption and 'letting go', allowing old wounds to heal and bringing painful chapters to a close. The album signals a new era for the band as drummer Mike Lowry officially joins as a fully-fledged member and songwriter bolstering the founding trio of William Cashion, Samuel T Herring and Gerrit Whelmers. Together, the four-piece took on official production duties for the first time, co-producing 'As Long As You Are' with engineer Steve Wright at his Wrightway Studios in Baltimore.

Lavishly produced 80s-style pop
Future Islands' sixth album is more memorable than the last, and their most lavishly produced so far. The lyrics are at points more political than usual for frontman Samuel Herring ('Born in a War'), also touching on man-made environmental destruction ('Plastic Beach', 'Thrill'). Although there are not as many immediate standouts as on albums like Singles and In Evening Air, tracks like 'For Sure' and closer 'Hit the Coast' provide some hooks for the other slow-burns to work their magic.
