Bass Strings for Fender Bass VI or for guitar conversion/retrofit
Besides the 30" scale length, these have the smaller ball size of a regular electric guitar. They will NOT fit a regular Bass, not even a short scale unless you loop the ball (I guess). I was super happy to find these from Ernie Ball as the specialty string providers charge extra for odd sizes. I secured these to convert/retrofit a sturdy Vintage Fender Mustang into a short scale bass. The conversion is great, but it was NOT plug n play. It required nut filing, truss rod and bridge adjustments. Proceed at your own risk or get a qualified luthier/technician to make the change over for you. The nickel plated steel (not pure nickel) was the perfect sound as stainless would have been too bright and confused the "is it a guitar or a bass" issue even further. This set has a plain steel .020, but I found a single wound .017 on ebay to make the conversion perfect. The low B is impossible so I tuned it E, A, D, G, C, F like a 7 string Bass sans B, not E, A, D, G, B, E, like a Bass IV or guitar. Limited room between strings and too much tension for bending. BUT, I love it, plays fast. I might change out the capacitors next!
