Stories to Help you Be Your Own Best Human
The book is filled with stories, legends, and ways of life, culture and community to help a Human walk their path in balance.
I was referred to Jamie Sams and David Carson's "Medicine Cards" by a Seminole/Tslagi Vietnam vet, and found them to be so valuable that when this set came out, I got it right away. I'm now buying several copies to give away to people who are interested in Native American lore & wisdom, lifestyle & culture - it's that good.
The stories in the book are all about how to be a Better Human, how to fit in with family & community, and how to walk with reverence on the Earth. The lore is mostly Lakota, but there are tales from other tribes as well. Each of the tales has an application, a lesson, a perception about a worldview, and attitudes towards community and relationship.
I heard a long time ago that Native American "religion" (I'm sorry, I know that's a general term, but bear with me) is about How to Be Your Own Best Human, and that as we all strive to be the best we can be, it makes the world a better place.
The stories and lessons in this book are excellent guidance to that end. The cards are almost unnecessary, but can help you choose which stories to work on as you refine and improve your Walk upon this Earth.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in Native American culture, Shamanism, spirituality, or just Being A Better Person.
