Independence War Deluxe Edition returns the player to the world of bitter animosity between the Commonwealth (Earth and its colony stars) and the Independence Movement, a conglomeration of pirates, terrorists and an underground political organization, all known collectively as the Indies. The on-going feud between the two factions for control of the colonies has been raging for more than a century, resulting in vicious space-based guerilla warfare.<br><br>The deluxe edition of Independence War introduces a fresh look at this war-torn universe from the enemy Indies perspective in 18 new missions. The new missions, set in the year 2268, expand the storyline as the player is put in control of an Indie force led by Edison Hayes. The action focuses on the Commonwealth Navy's attempt to subordinate the Indie controlled stronghold, Midway, by blockading the planet, thus starving the population and government into submission.<br><br>The game not only includes a new Defiance Campaign but offers the full version of the original Independence War as well, bringing the total number of missions to sixty. Independence War Deluxe Edition features include new weaponry such as the Gatling Cannon and Sniper Particle Beam Cannon and puts the player in command of a new Dreadnought-class Corvette spaceship, weighing in at 8,520 tons and 160 meters.<br><br>Additionally, the designers have included a new save feature that allows periodical saves at various points during each mission. Rounding out the enhancements included in the deluxe version is a new cinematic introduction that provides the player with a stage-setting presentation of the escalating events leading up to the Defiance Campaign.
