What a find!
9 CDs of fabulous music. Yes, there are no notes about the composers or the compositions other than the basic stuff, e.g. the life spans of the composers, the dates of the recordings and where they were made, the names of the musician collaborators (pianists, violists, guitarists, orchestras, conductors, etc.) but that's there, on the back of each sleeve. But what is there is very helpful! I spent most of the first day I had this set (yesterday) copying the discs to CDR's, including extensive CD Text that I worked up to my satisfaction from that info on the back of the sleeves. My CD players support CD Text!!! I listened to disk #8 in entirety and it's simply amazing, delightful, astounding. That disc alone was worth the price of the package. This is a definite contender for the best recorded music purchase I've ever made and I've been at it for a long time. Gets my vote at the moment! Itzhak Perlman is alive and as far as I know, well, living in New York with his long time wife Tobi Perlman, also a classically trained violinist. They have 5 children. The Wikipedia page on Itzhak Perlman is a joy to read. At the age of about 3 he heard a radio (AM) broadcast of classical violin music and decided that was for him. His parents had him submit for instructions at a local academy (Tele Viv, Israel) and they rejected the 3 year old, too small to hold a violin. He then obtained a toy violin and taught himself to play. A few years later he was accepted by the academy and had professional instruction and it took off from there.
