A paraplegic ex-marine war veteran is unwillingly sent to establish a human settlement on the distant planet of Pandora, only to find himself battling humankind alongside the planet's indigenous Na'vi race in this ambitious digital 3-D sci-fi epic from Academy Award-winning TITANIC director James Cameron. The film, which marks Cameron's first dramatic feature since 1997's Titanic, will be shot on the proprietary FUSION digital 3-D cameras developed by Cameron in collaboration with Vince Pace, and will offer a groundbreaking mix of live-action dramatic performances and computer-generated effects. Australian actor Sam Worthington stars as the reluctant human settler, Jake Sully, with actress Zoe Saldana signing on to portray the local woman who enters into a romantic affair with the hero. The revolutionary motion-capture system created for the film allows the facial expressions of actors to be captured as a virtual camera system enables them to see what their computer-generated counterparts will be seeing in the film, and Peter Jackson's Oscar-winning Weta Digital visual-effects house has been hired to supervise AVATAR's complex visual effects. Joel Moore, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Michelle Rodriguez round out the cast.

    Great storyline but...

    This is a great storyline. What a pity that so much footage was not included in the main movie. Watching the out takes explains a lot that is not covered in the actual film. We really need a longer version than this extended one, fitting in most of the out take footage. The movie is split over the first two DVDs and extras are on the third DVD. Watch the extended version then watch the extra out take footage. That's the only way to get the full detail of the story.

    Outstanding!

    I am one of the few people who did NOT see this when it originally came out, although I'd heard enough to have a brief idea of the plot-line. This is a FANTASTIC film - and having the 'extras' of the deleted scenes on the DVD actually rounds it out a little more. In one of his interviews, James Cameron says that he wanted the characters to be so realistic that people watching the film thought to themselves, "I want to be like that". Well, that was definitely the case with ME, I'd give my eye-teeth to be one of them. The plot idea of the war-mongering, greedy and utterly selfish giant corporations is not a new one and unfortunately seems to me to be not totally fictional. There were a number of points where I was chewing my knuckles but hoorah, at least it has the CORRECT ending! ...

    Brilliant sy-fi film

    There are fantastic special effects on this film. The way they transform from one body into another is remarkable. The creatures they create are out of this world. I really enjoy watching this film over and over again. Anyone interested in sy-fi films then this is a must see film. I haven't seen any of the extras for this film yet but I'm sure they will not disappoint me. 10/10 for everyone who has had a hand in making this film they deserve all the credit they can get. So go on give yourself a treat and buy it you want be disappointed.

    Great Science Fiction with a twist.

    A Science fiction fantasy world that has the story line of humans invading an alien planet world invade by humans. Their greed of the minerals within the planet they wish to extract, without the thought of damage to the peaceful aliens and their culture is ignored. Great James Cameron production with wonderful special effects make the film a great viewing adventure.
