Product Information

A Japanese-American co-production, director Richard Fleischer (SOYLENT GREEN) and two Japanese directors put together this ultrarealistic account of the bombing of Pearl Harbor as presented from the perspectives of both nations, as diplomatic tensions rise between the two countries. While the Japanese military plans its attack on American military installations, the American forces nearly stumble into a much greater calamity due to a series of errors and mistakes. As the two sides plunge closer to war, the tension escalates until the final, spectacular air raid, the most realistic ever filmed. This ITA award winner has a fabulous cast, including Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotten, Jason Robards, James Whitmore, and E.G. Marshall.

    Best film on Pearl Harbor.

    The best film done on the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. It shows the events from both the American and Japanese viewpoints, using historical accuracy. It pulls no punches, showing mistakes and errors on both sides. It has a stellar cast, including James Whitmore, Martin Balsam, Jason Robards, and a ton of character actors we've seen in other movies. It also doesn't clutter the movie with totally unnecessary side stories of romance, etc. The action sequences are done terrifically, without CGI, which won the film an Oscar. If you're interested in the history of the Pearl Harbor attack, this is your movie.

    The original Pearl Harbour movie, and still the best!

    The thinking man’s war picture, and still the best Pearl Harbour movie ever made. Absolutely jaw dropping stunts and explosions, no video game cutscene quality CGI in sight. Acting and script are serviceable - this isn’t a drama, more like a docu-drama. Can’t recommend this movie highly enough!

    Best Movie about Pearl Harbor

    Being in the fourth grade when Pearl Harbor was attacked and having read several books about the event, I know that this is far and above the best movie about this disaster. It is a very accurate documentary-like presentation, acted out by both American and Japanese actors. There is no love story or any other distractions (like in some of the other more- recently-made movies about this battle). It is not only very accurate but also wonderfully filmed. I unequivocally recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about this historically important event while watching an exceptionally well-made film.

    excellent depiction

    A excellent depiction of the attack on Pearl Harbor, focusing on the view of the Japanize military. The acting was flawless and the characters engaging. This is an epic film with a lot of action and great story telling and out standing special effects.

    Historically Accurate Movie

    After a trip to Pearl Harbor this month, it IS THE MOST historical movie about the attack. I believe it now, great movie!
