The Clackee performed as expected. The first valve we needed to find provided a loud sort of ticking sound so it was very easy to find and repair before we left. The second valve we needed to find took a bit longer as it provided a humming sound, but we did find it. Now that we've found all of ours, we can lend our Clackee to someone else.

I called the 800 number and they told me to throw it away and sent me the Chatter Box at no additional charge. The Chatter Box worked perfectly. Was able to hear the clicking even though the valve box was under 8-10" of dirt. Thank you.

However (and admittedly, this may be something particular to my situation), for the first irrigation zone that I tried, and on a quiet day, I found it extremely difficult to hear the solenoid buzzing, and I even had an idea where to look for it. I eventually had to resort to using a mechanic's stethoscope stuck into the ground. And, this solenoid was only under about three inches of mulch. I gotta believe that finding my 5 other solenoids will be more difficult.
