Sounds Excatly like my jp8000
I've read countless reviews saying this thing sounds like a piece of trash. I would like to know how since it has the same wave forms, sound engine and filter as the Roland jp-8000. The pads are amazing somewhat Celestial and beautiful, the acid sounds are exactly like the jp-8000. The filter never breaks up even when the resonance is at complete maximum. I barely even know any keyboard that can do that at this price point. It does have a very small amount of sounds at 64 user and 64 presets. But I think we all know that you only work with a few sounds at a time from a synthesizer on a song. I love the options the D beam controller and the input that can process external audio through the filter and effects. The external in is selected through oscillator number one and there are many ... It only has two oscillators but if you use it in dual mode it actually has four which is one oscillator more than most synthesizers which only offer to oscillators and 1 sub oscillator which is not as complete as a 3rd oscillator. About the casing, many synthesizers are made out of plastic casing so I do not know why anyone would b****. The knobs have a nice solid feeling and look like a tb-303 which is appealing. I personally think it's an amazing scent with all its options and I didn't even get into the arpeggiator. It also has a really nice effect in the Reverb section. Which is something to Roland jp-8000 does not have. I think it's an all-around killer synthesizer that sounds exactly like the jp-8000 so get it while you can for cheap before people realize what a gem it is.

A really great synth.
This synth is really easy to use and it has a big sound. It's not the biggest and baddest synth out there, but it really delivers some high quality sound. It's great for just about anything, but I think it truly excels at pad and atmospheric sounds. Great for trance/dance leads aswel.

Hidden gem is bad as sh...
I stumbled upon the SH-201 looking for Roland gear I may not have known about. This is a powerhouse synth built into a light weight shell. Some may find it’s plastic housing and keys a bit toy like and I would agree but the sounds are very good and the additional software makes it worth the second hand price. This synth is excellent for on the road as it is very light, just make sure you have a solid case.I stumbled upon the SH-201 looking for Roland gear I may not have known about. Lovely Synth!
The SH-201 is truly a secret weapon, and will no doubt be a classic that is sought after in the future. My synth of choice is my old Jupiter 8. I did a side by side of a simple raw waveform test between them and the basic waveforms were IDENTICAL to the ones on my JP-8. For those who are having trouble obtaining bubbly resonance bass patches, try tweaking the filter envelope sliders to adjust the resonance to your taste. The SH-201 is a MUST if your a fan of early Jupiters and Juno's and the layering of the 2 OSC can give you the effect of having 4! Not to be bashing people opinions on here, but people REALLY need to spend more time reading the manual and overall usage of this synth to find its secret sauce. your patches will sound HUGE if you adjust the fine tuning of OSC 1&2 to create ... For comprehensive tactile immediacy when it comes to creating a sound, this synth will have few rivals. For that with an attractive price point, it likely has no rival. Many musicians may look at this box and think it is too simple but that is not so. There are many hidden features and with an editor and librarian, midi and sync features, it holds its own against it's modern counterparts for functionality and flexibility. Bottom line is that this device will stand on its own for a long time to come; may not be the latest model but it is definitely not out of date.
