""And You Invited Me In" is a powerful story of unconditional love and grace. This story grabbed me and reminded me of all the emotional roads that...gays and lesbians experience every day.... I wept as I recalled the many people who have crossed our paths in ministry who are the Scotts, Alexes, Annies, and Samuels. It is my prayer that God will use this real-life story to break all our hearts and cause us...to realize what really matters in life." -- Todd Ferrell, president of The Evangelical Network, " And You Invited Me In is a powerful story of unconditional love and grace. Synopsis
A novel that tackles the decades-long moral dilemma over homosexuality which the modern world continues to debate: how can Christians accept or even tolerate a lifestyle that is so different from anything they have been taught to believe is acceptable?, When Alex Marshall left his stifling small town behind, he felt freedom for the first time in his life. Rejected by his conservative Christian hometown for his homosexuality, Alex becomes a successful lawyer, active in the gay community and committed to his partner, Scott. But tragedy strikes in the form of AIDS, as it rips away Alex's dignity and crushes his body. He is near the end of his life. Annie Whitley, Alex's sister, is faced with a difficult choice when a call from Alex comes out of the blue. Should she travel to care for her estranged brother -- who represents the lifestyle she's been taught to hate and fear -- or stay away, deny him, and follow what the town demands? Choosing Alex, she begins to see how her decision impacts the entire community. "And You Invited Me In" addresses the moral dilemma that many face: how can people accept or even tolerate a way of life so different from anything they have been taught to believe is acceptable? This interwoven tale speaks of love, compassion, and true belief, as a family reconciles and a town comes to understand the truth of its faith, and is resonant with the hymn of equality. "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in." -- Matthew 25: 35, Annie Whitley is a conservative Christian living in the small town of Hallton, Wisconsin. Her faith and family bonds are tested when she is unexpectedly faced with a difficult decision; her brother, Alex Marshall, is a successful gay lawyer living in Atlanta who, after leaving behind his conservative roots, is now is dying of AIDS. Should she care for him? Would it be right to practice forgiveness, compassion, and understanding and invite her brother home to Hallton to die having made peace with his former family and friends? Yet longtime family friends, including former professional football player, Jett Taylor, also a conservative Christian, believes inviting Alex and his partner, Scott Phillips, owner of a regional gay newspaper, to Hallton would be hypocritical and compromise the Whitleys' Christian faith and convictions. Annie finds herself searching her heart and soul and asking, "What would Jesus do?" The book explores the frustrations of a woman caught in-between a debate which has raged within and around the church for centuries: If we let our fellow man - or brother - die without even offering help or compassion? Are we guilty of an even greater sin than tolerating what we've been taught is unacceptable - homosexuality? Would Jesus not comfort the afflicted and heal the sick? The title brings to mind the powerful words in the New Testament: If we see Jesus in every man, would we not invite him in?, When Alex Marshall left his stifling small town behind, he felt freedom for the first time in his life. - e***n (390)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufGreat transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive. Thanks, Joe
