I agree with the other comments that this jig is not as well made as it should be. However it does the job and is good value so still worth buying. My top tips would be to use centering pins and to start off the hole by drilling a few mm before attaching the jig. Then put a drill bit into the hole and lower the jig over it. This ensures that the jig is in exactly the right place. And don't rely on the "self centering which is worse than useless.

I dont know where this was made bytbit appears to be a poor quality copy of a jig made by at least one reputable manufacturer in the United States. The clamping principle is the same as a woodworking vice - central screw threaded rod and parallel slide rods either side to prevent racking. Only problem is that nothing that is meant to be square and parallel on this jig actually is square and parallel. All the through holes have been drilled crooked forcing you to place shims between the work and the clamp at opposing corners to try and keep the drill guide block centred along an edge. The individual drill guide sleeves are not hardened as far as I can tell and are very roughly bored, with off centre ridges down the inside that catch on the cutting edges of your drill bits. The locating marks on the side of the jig are not centred on each guide hole, so every hole you drill is about 1mm adrift of where you want it to be. As a time and labour saver this is hopeless. As a tool you might use very, very occasionally (knowing its faults, and how to compensate for them) its just about useable, but frankly a plastic jig from a DIY store would probably be more accurate.

Works well when setup. As delivered the mechanism was not self centering but after a small amount of adjustment it was easy to resolve. The tightening pin is splined to make a tight fit in the centre screw but on my example it was loose and kept falling out which was annoying as it always seemed to roll under the work bench!. That said, once setup and working.I was able to accurately make up doweled joints with ease. I used it to make up a garden planter with 45mm legs. I would say 45-50mm is about the limit of material thickness you can use with it. Overall, it could be better, but for the price I cannot really complain and with a little care it produces good results. Works well when setup. Excellent!
Great product and excellent value. Makes locating dowels really easy. It feels very solid and is well-engineered. Pleased to have it in my tool cupboard.

In my opinion a brilliant product
This is the first time I’ve ever used a dowel jig so I was a little apprehensive. I didn’t have to worry in my opinion it’s really easy to use, comes with full instructions. Extremely well made & I’ve completed my first table top with dowels. I would recommend this product to both friends & family.

Nice idea but poorly implemented
A substantial chunk for the money but too inaccurately machined for keeping holes centred. So did not get as far as even using it after a happy hour trying, and failing, to correct its alignment.
