In Argentina the sugar industry has been of recent development. In 1871 the total production amounted to only 1.000 tons. It is only in the northern part of the Repub fertile and well-watered plains, are especially adapted to its cultivation. A wellequipped experiment station in Tucuman is doing excellent work in promoting the industry. The total production of the country for the 1913-14 season amounted to nearly 2o0, (H)0 tons, and conservative estimates place the 1914-15 crop at about the same ligures.
