Minimize the threat of costly downtime with the Supermicro X8DTL-iF (MBD-X8DTL-iF-O) Intel Xeon server motherboard. This hardware includes two 1366 LGA CPU sockets. Each socket can take either Intel 5500 or 5600 series Xeon processors. You can have as many as twelve cores pushing 24 processing threads concurrently. The chipset that this motherboard is built on is the Intel 5500 Tylersburg, which implements the Intel QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) replacement for FSB that allows for point-to-point processor interconnect at 6.4 GT/s. Despite its standard ATX form factor, Supermicro board accessories support up to 96 GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM. With ECC error correction, it can automatically correct single-bit errors and detect double-bit errors, in addition to supporting Intel's x4 and x8 Single Device Data Correction.The south bridge chipset is the tried and true combination of ICH10R and IOH-24D. This manages the six SATA 3Gbps ports on the motherboard. To avoid any problems with memory storage, RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 support is available for Windows, and RAID 0, 1, and 10 for Linux. RAID does not replace the security of an off-site backup, but it does ensure that a single drive failing will not take irreplaceable data with it. Intel did include an integrated graphics and video solution in the Matrox G200eW. There are also several PCI-E slots that can be used for an aftermarket graphics card in these motherboards. There are many setups available, with two x8 2.0 slots that can be used as one PCI-E x16 slot, and two more x4 slots that can be used as a single x8. For other types of components, there are also two 33MHz PCI slots. If needed, there is also a Fast UART 16550 serial port accessory.Network connectivity is incredibly important for any server. Here it is managed by an internal dual Intel 82574L Gigabit Ethernet Controller for a total of 2Gb/s data throughput from two Ethernet ports. Rather than dipping into incoming and outgoing bandwidth, there is a dedicated Intelligent Platform Management Interface port. This IPMI port allows you to easily integrate the health monitoring type of data stream into your current system. For installations running Linux, there is native KVM support. The SuperDoctor software developed by SuperMicro is also preinstalled on the board. This board also features additional accessories, including two USB rear ports, one on board, and an additional two internal headers for five total 2.0 connections.Setup is made easy by the installed Plug and Play AMI BIOS, with USB keyboard support for instant PnP setup solutions. Once running, there are plenty of internal monitoring systems for precision control of component voltages as well as a four-phase switching voltage regulator. The motherboard comes with six four-pin headers for cooling fans that can be given custom cooling curves depending on the temperature monitoring reports. If there is a need to prioritize low heat or low decibel cooling, you have all the information needed to set them from the tachometer reports. Standard three-pin fans are also supported. In compatible computer cases, a chassis intrusion sensor can be connected to ensure that everything is secure.
