PRAISE FOR ELSKE RAHILL : ' In White Ink captures women and mothers caught inside their lives; Rahill's art sets them free into ours' Kirsty Gunn. 'Exquisite, savagely honest collection ... Bleak, but acutely insightful' Daily Mail . 'Rahill has attempted to do something bravely original and, with that, has singled herself out as an intriguing and definitive voice of a new generation of Irish writers' Irish Independent ., "There is a sense of great weight about this book; the characters move through a dense and cloudy atmosphere of fear and suspicion... Rahill's lyrical prose is constant'" -- Irish Times "Rahill is a stylist of the highest calibre: Molly's voice has a lilting brogue that sings from the page. Rahill's prose is alive with inventive phrasings and imagistic virtuosity, especially in its presentation of the intimate experience of the fleshly body - the maternal body, the cruelly waning body, the body tormented by a conflicted and unravelling mind. I've seldom read a novel so rich in poetry" -- Guardian "Powerful... Heartbreaking and beautifully observed'" -- Irish Times "Elske Rahill writes with a lyrical artistry and her words delicately weave the threads of a timeline filled with fierce love and crippling hurt" -- Irish Examiner

Synopsis
'Rahill is a stylist of the highest calibre... Molly's voice has a lilting brogue that sings from the page. Rahill's prose is alive with inventive phrasings and imagistic virtuosity, especially in its presentation of the intimate experience of the fleshly body - the maternal body, the cruelly waning body, the body tormented by a conflicted and unravelling mind. I've seldom read a novel so rich in poetry' GUARDIAN . Molly is now in her eighties and she helps her grand-daughters Cara and Freya bring up their young children with unstinting care. Hers has been a life of unselfpitying service, from her working-class Dublin girlhood to her current status as the wealthy widow of a famous artist. But her own children, particularly her daughter Eileen, are her life's great failure: unhappy, self-indulgent women who resent the younger generation's apparent freedom from guilt and their unconventional family arrangements. This intricate web of female relationships comes under terrible strain when Molly, her health sapped by her constant efforts on behalf of others, decides to consult the family solicitor about changing her will. This is a novel of great tenderness in its depiction of the small pleasures of family life and ruthless in its portrayal of the dangerous power of money. 'Powerful... Heartbreaking and beautifully observed' Irish Times ., A novel about four generations of women and the violent tensions and loving devotion, envy and self sacrifice that family life embodies.

- e***n (390)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufGreat transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive. Thanks, Joe
- 0***g (380)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufExcellent purchase. Was able to get all three items from the one seller. Seller was able to bundle all three items together into one package. Items as described and arrived in perfect condition. Good communication around shipping and tracking as items delayed and not able to be delivered by original estimate. Thanks to shipping updates I was able to track the items arriving before the extended delivery time. Thank you for making these items available on EBay.
