This is his true story and includes photographs of Ivan in the back matter., In this evocative, accessible picture book, illustrated by G. Brian Karas, Katherine Applegate tells the true story of the gorilla who inspired her Newbery-winning novel The One and Only Ivan . The real Ivan, known as the Shopping Mall Gorilla, lived alone in a small cage for almost thirty years before he was finally relocated to the gorilla habitat at ZooAtlanta. Back matter includes photographs of Ivan.

Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive. Thanks, Joe
