Set during the dark days of the French Revolution BBC series THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL stars estimable Richard E. Grant as Sir Percy Blakeney, an insufferably haughty British dandy. Unbeknownst to virtually everyone (including his wife, Marguerite, played by American actress Elizabeth McGoven), Sir Percy spends his evenings in the guise of the dashing, fearless Scarlet Pimpernel, savior of many French noblepersons who would otherwise be condemned to the guillotine by the Revolutionary Tribunal. Together with a small band of confederates, the 'damn'd elusive Pimpernel' enjoys nothing more than thoroughly confounding his perennial nemesis, the skulking Citizen Chauvelin (Martin Shaw). This collection includes all episodes from the series.

Dated series
I have watched several SP series, usually at the time of their production, but missed this as I was too young. The acting is good, but the stories are not given enough time to develop. I am still fighting my way through the box set, and am looking forward to the guest celebrity appearances. However on the whole I don’t think this shines because it feels dated.
