Product Information
In 1904, the United States commemorated the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase by hosting what would go down in history as the Victorian era's largest and most extravagant World's Fair. Between April 30 and December 1, 1904, 12 million visitors streamed through the 1200-acre site in St. Louis, Missouri, to marvel at scientific inventions like the motion picture, tape recorder, and telephone; gawk at cultural exhibits that featured entire villages literally transplanted from around the globe; and ride a mile-long carnival midway that boasted the first, and, to this day, largest Ferris Wheel. In addition, the St. Louis World's Fair was host to the 1904 Olympics, only the third Olympic games of the modern era and the first to be held in the United States. Through a remarkable collection of archival footage, memorabilia, and interviews with famous St. Louis natives Ozzie Smith, Stan Musial, Joe Buck, and Mayor Francis Slay, filmmakers Scott Huegerich and Bob Miano fashion an exhaustive homage to the historic event with the PBS documentary special THE WORLD'S GREATEST FAIR.Product Identifiers
