Synopsis
This text offers a unique introduction to the contemporary field of "critical pedagogy." Provides a provocative investigation of the political, social, and economic factors underlying classroom practices. Excerpts from the author's bestselling work, Cries from the Corridor: The New Suburban Ghetto, are included. Includes a presentation and analysis of social problems, and theoretical framework for formulating potential solutions (Part 3, 4). The new edition also includes a new essay on race, a chapter on the social construction of whiteness, as well as new statistics relative to American public schooling., This text is a provocative investigation of the political, social, and economic factors underlying classroom practices, offering a unique introduction to the contemporary field of critical pedagogy. "Life in Schools" features excerpts from the author's best-selling work, "Cries from the Corridor: The New Suburban Ghetto." The text provokes analytic discussion of social problems and a theoretical framework for formulating potential solutions (Parts III IV). It also includes a new discussion of race and class, a chapter on the social construction of whiteness, and a new chapter that challenges current domestic and foreign policies of the current White House administration (including the No Child Left Behind Act) and their impact upon American public schooling., Japan's economic bubble burst in the early 1990s, and the country entered its famous"lost decade"--a period of stagnation and economic disruption that persisted until 2003.The current declines in global equity and real estate markets have eerie parallels to Japan'seconomic woes of the 1990s. If we are to avoid repeating Japan's experience on a global scale, wemust understand what happened, why it happened, and the effectiveness (or ineffectiveness) ofJapan's policy choices. In this volume, prominent economists--Japan specialists and others--bringstate-of-the-art models and analytic tools to bear on these questions. The essays generate new factsand new findings about Japan's lost decade. As much of the research shows, the slowdown can bebroken down into two phases: a typical recession, followed by a breakdown in the economy likely dueto insufficient restructuring, which is not well described by conventional models. The contributorsoffer forceful arguments showing that Japan's experience, and the unconventional--sometimesunsuccessful--measures adopted by Japan's government and central bank, offer valuable lessons forour post-boom world.ContributorsKenn Ariga, Robert Barsky, Diego Comin, Robert Dekle, Kyoji Fukao,Koichi Hamada, Takeo Hoshi, Ryo Kambayashi, Anil K Kashyap, Takao Kato, Satoshi Koibuchi, Philip R.Lane, John Muellbauer, Kiko Murata, Maurice Obstfeld, Ryosuke Okazawa, Joe Peek, Ulrike Schaede,David E. - e***g (59)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufExcellent prices on used books in great condition. Shipped out quickly. Product condition is accurate to rating in listing. Thanks! NOTE: For this particular book (I ordered several), it came in a soft cover rather than hard cover as the listing stated. I contacted the seller and they responded promptly. They agreed that it was a listing error and provided me with a full refund for this book (without return required) proving they are both a responsible and trustworthy seller. The Game Hardcover Ken Dryden (Nr. 277097212658)
- 0***1 (1574)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufThis book arrived within the time period given and was in the 'very good' condition described. Unfortunately, only being packaged in a plastic bag to traverse the Atlantic meant that all four corners got a battering (I would be happy to pay bit more in future for a bit of cardboard support in packaging) but all in all, the price was good and overall service for books that are difficult to get over here, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this seller. Will buy again from them.
