Reviews
With its mix of high action and mental machinations, the unraveling of this political and economic thriller will keep readers flipping pages until the climax., Burton has raised his game with The Lynchpin. The Agent Drew Cady series is one you will want to follow., I was hooked by the second or third page of this well-written mystery. Hard to put down. T he Lynchpin by Jeffrey B. Burton is the second of his Agent Drew Cady mysteries - the first being the acclaimed The Chessman . I look forward to the third., I wouldn't suggest putting this on your reading list. I would beg you to put it on the very top. You will not be disappointed., Any enthusiast of political intrigue and mystery will find plenty of strong twists and turns of plot in The Chessman , a title recommended for readers who won't settle for less than high drama and intrigue in their reading., Drew Cady is an engaging character with a fine investigative nose. He's far from the unwavering, bureaucratised FBI detectives often depicted elsewhere, and though he does eventually come out literally with guns blazing in a Western-style shoot-out, he's not shy of showing his softer side, as loyal colleague and compassionate man of the law., Jeffrey B. Burton has woven these twin plots, the investigation of a series of sadistic serial killings and of a spy ring featuring senior FBI and CIA operatives, into a gripping thriller., Burton does a good job of handling the multiplicity of motives and of depicting his flawed hero, who finds himself dealing with a superbly clever killer from the past and the murderous forces of the present. The Chessman offers plenty of suspense and a wild ending., THE LYNCH PIN is an enjoyable, fast paced read. Jeffrey Burton keeps us rising a roller coaster while seating on the edge of our seat. With Jeffrey, you feel that you are right beside him, feeling the weather, smelling items, and feeling the deep breaths. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 5., Perfect for genre readers who want much more than either standard thrillers or murder mysteries tend to offer., A real page turner, to reader who are interested in reading a book that they'll reread several times, please read The Chessman., The Lynchpin is an exciting, inventive and highly realistic read that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. I simply could not put this book down once I started it, it was just that good. Author Jeffrey B. Burton has a gift at drawing characters and situations so beautifully that the reader will feel as if they are right there in the moment, experiencing everything first hand. And I can truly say that I did not anticipate the ending, a highly unusual occurrence for me., Head-scratching moments, a dose of political intrigue and departmental conflict, and a world in which the true lynchpin may not be the character sporting the name make The Lynchpin a chess game of high order, and perfect for genre readers who want much more than either standard thrillers or murder mysteries tend to offer., That's the barebones outline of Minnesotan Jeffrey Burton's terrific mystery, The Chessman, made up of a lot of moving parts the author brings together masterfully., THE LYNCH PIN is an enjoyable, fast paced read. Jeffrey Burton keeps us rising a roller coaster while seating on the edge of our seat. With Jeffrey, you feel that you are right beside him, feeling the weather, smelling items, and feeling the deep breaths. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 5., Burton delivers an outstanding serial killer thriller that will impress even seasoned practitioners of this subgenre. The convolutions are both mind-boggling and well-conceived, and Burton excels at balancing scenes of action and pursuit with deduction., "The Lynchpin" characters are realistic with distinctive speech patterns. The plot moves quickly, containing enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing until the end. Those who like their protagonists flawed will like Cady, who is tough, but caring, and struggling to have a solid relationship with his fiancee., Burton delivers an outstanding serial killer thriller that will impress even seasoned practitioners of this subgenre. The convolutions are both mind-boggling and well-conceived, and Burton excels at balancing scenes of action and pursuit with deduction., The Chessman is not unlike the game of chess itself, it's all about strategy and out-thinking your opponent. Jeffrey Burton has succeeded in creating a visual of this fact, allowing the reader to strategize and attempt to think one or two moves ahead as they delve further into this exciting novel., It's a scarily-realistic novel that makes you want to check and double check that your windows and doors are locked, and leaves you with a suspicion that you should be checking over your shoulder. It brings new meaning to "scary good." Overall, this flawless novel that is an exciting mix of thriller, horror, and action genres, is one to be greatly acknowledged. Please do yourself a favor and pick up this novel as soon as possible. You will not regret it., For a roller coaster ride of political intrigue and suspense, The Chessman is the book for you. Just when you think you have it - twists then turns . . . expertly done to keep you on the edge of your seat. A journey worth taking. Buckle up, for the gripping, solid, bumpy ride! Excellent.

Synopsis
Special Agent Drew Cady has waved goodbye to Washington, D.C., and ten years of chasing violent felons in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Criminal Investigative Division (CID). He is on the mend, both physically and emotionally, as he helps run his fiancée's resort in northern Minnesota while working part-time on the FBI's Medicare Fraud Strike Force in Minneapolis. Chasing white collar criminals is a far cry from hunting serial killers and Cady basks in the glow of his newer, more laid-back lifestyle, that is, until a young woman's body possessing a most-disturbing characteristic is pulled from Lake Superior outside of Duluth. And if being ordered to investigate this case isn't bad enough, Cady's former boss-Assistant Director of CID Roland Jund-has killed a fellow agent and stands accused of being a spy. Now Agent Cady must draw upon every last bit of experience he has to clear his friend's name while at the same time ensuring that no more innocent lives are extinguished by a sadistic killer with a taste for blood. But nobody is who they appear to be and information is only as reliable as its source., Special Agent Drew Cady has waved goodbye to Washington, D.C., and ten years of chasing violent felons in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Criminal Investigative Division (CID). Excellent prices on used books in great condition. Shipped out quickly. Product condition is accurate to rating in listing. Thanks! NOTE: For this particular book (I ordered several), it came in a soft cover rather than hard cover as the listing stated. I contacted the seller and they responded promptly. They agreed that it was a listing error and provided me with a full refund for this book (without return required) proving they are both a responsible and trustworthy seller.

This book arrived within the time period given and was in the 'very good' condition described. Unfortunately, only being packaged in a plastic bag to traverse the Atlantic meant that all four corners got a battering (I would be happy to pay bit more in future for a bit of cardboard support in packaging) but all in all, the price was good and overall service for books that are difficult to get over here, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this seller. Will buy again from them.
