Beside such iconic recordings as Strauss's Vier letzte Lieder with Schwarzkopf, Brahms concertos with Oistrakh and Rostropovich, and the complete Beethoven piano concertos with Gilels, it includes several items making their first appearance on CD. A Must Have For Any Interested in George Szell
This box is a bargain. It contains all the great recordings that George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra made on the Columbia label. There is also a disc with comments by those who worked with this great and sometimes difficult conductor. [When Szell exited the interview in which he was being considered for principal conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra the first words spoken were "Dr. Szell is not an easy-going person."
