Set in a coal mining town near the Appalachian Mountains in 1978 Ava Maria (Ashley Judd) runs a pharmacy and leads a quiet life however a series of events incite a mid-life crisis. Movie star Elizabeth Taylor comes to town and shakes things up in the sleepy village as a secret in Ava Maria's family emerges. As a result Ava starts to re-evaluate the choices in her life and decides to trade safety and security for a life of adventure. Written and directed by Adriana Trigiani. Also stars Patrick Wilson, Whoopi Goldberg, Jane Krakowski, Anthony LaPaglia and Jasmine Guy.

Big Stone Gap review
Very entertaining! Many of the characters are based loosely on real people. I lived for many years in Big Stone Gap. The scenery is beautiful! The movie captures the area well.
