Reviews
"This slender volume is an excellent collection of reviews on ADHD in the context of modern psychopharmacology and neuroscience....The quality of all the chapters is consistently of a very high standard, each text a gem on its own. They are concisely written and densely packed with relevantinformation. Synopsis
Stimulant drugs are widely used in the treatment of ADHD in children and adults. Hundreds of studies over the past 60 years have demonstrated their effectiveness in improving attention span, increasing impulse control, and reducing hyperactivity and restlessness. Despite widespread interest in these compounds, however, their mechanisms of action in the central nervous system have remained poorly understood. Recent advances in the basic and clinical neurosciences now afford the possibility of elucidating these mechanisms. The current volume is the first to bring this expanding knowledge to bear on the central question of why and how stimulants exert their therapeutic effects. The result is a careful, comprehensive, and insightful integration of material by well-known scientists that significantly advances our understanding of stimulant effects and charts a course for future research. Part I presents a comprehensive description of the clinical features of ADHD and the clinical repsonse to stimulants. Part II details the cortical and subcortical neuroanatomy and functional neurophysiology of dopamine and norepinephrine systems with respect to the regulation of attention, arousal, activity, and impulse control on the basis of animal studies. Part III is devoted to clinical research, including recent studies of neuroimaging, genetics, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties of stimulants, effects on cognitive functions, neurophysiological effects in humans with and without ADHD and in non-human primates, and comparison of stimulants and non-stimulants in the treatment of ADHD. Part IV is a masterful synthesis that presents alternative models of stimulant drug action and generates key hypotheses for continued research. The volume will be of keen interest to researchers and clinicians in psychiatry, psychology, and neurology, neuroscientists studying stimulants, and those persuing development of new drugs to treat ADHD., Stimulant drugs are widely used in the treatment of ADHD in children and adults. This volume is the first to integrate advances in the basic and clinical neurosciences in order to shed new light on this important question. The chapter topics span basic research into the neuroanatomy, neurophysiology and neuropsychology of catecholamines, animal models of ADHD, and clinical studies of neuroimaging, genetics, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, and the cognitive pharmacology of stimulants. The result is a careful, comprehensive, and insightful synthesis by a group of well-known scientists that significantly advances our understanding of stimulant effects and charts a course for future research.

- e***r (10)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufYou can’t always be sure when an item is listed “like new” but this seller delivered a book that is just that. I’m very pleased with the condition of the book and the pricing was excellent compared to other sellers online. It was packaged extremely well and arrived with no wrinkles or folded areas. I made a great purchase and I now look forward to purchasing additional items by this author from this seller. 10/10 satisfaction! The Power of A Praying Wife Omartian, Stormie paperback Used - Like New (Nr. 276668989218)
- b***b (169)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letztes JahrBestätigter KaufAfter two poor experiences with this seller, they exceeded my expectations with this order…hard to believe it was the same seller. The book purchased, identified in their listing as “Very Good”, was, in fact, “Like New”. The price was very fair. Shipping was slow, but that seems to be true with many things purchased in the internet. If I have a complaint, it is that the seller will not respond to specific questions about a listed item before the purchase..too many orders to do so! 🙁The Beginning or the End: How Hollywood―and America―Learned to Stop Worrying an (Nr. 387783000754)
