Reviews
"You get a real feeling for what Laos was like in the '70s. The humor is wonderful, too-very subtle, very British."- New York Post "This is the seventh and most sardonic of Mr. Cotterill's Dr. Siri series, and it is not easy to cope with the combination of misery and merry melancholy that he employs. His writing, as always, is skillful and smooth and his plot is artfully strung together. The book fascinates as it chills."- Washington Times "Colorful."- Seattle Times "I love this elegantly written series, set in Laos with clever, septuagenarian coroner Dr. Siri. This one, the seventh, is the best, but all of them are terrific.... A delightful mix of history and politics, and an excellent mystery."- Toronto Globe and Mail " Shallow Grave carries on in the wry, unpredictable manner of previous Cotterill books. Unlike the earlier novels, this one contains sections of first-person narrative by Siri. His voice is as marvelous as everything else about him."- Sacramento News and Review "It's a rare treat to say that a book placed so far into a series is the best one. Authors more often than not run out of steam by the seventh book. Not Colin Cotterill."-Oregon Live ( The Oregonian ) "Cotterill, a resident of Thailand, has a gift for creating memorably eccentric characters, while spinning a fascinating array of Southeast Asian history and folklore into his narratives."- Japan Times "Cotterill's superb seventh mystery ... has it all-a heroic protagonist, a challenging puzzle, and an exotic setting."- Publishers Weekly , Starred Review "In his seventh installment (after The Merry Misogynist ) Cotterill vividly depicts a Southeast Asia still traumatized by the Vietnam War-the horrors perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge, the shocking poverty, the rampant corruption, and the steadfast spirit of the people, And Dr. Siri is a one-of-a-kind protagonist rivaled only by Eliot Pattison's Shan Tao Yung. Highly recommended for series fans and readers who enjoy international mysteries."- Library Journal , Starred Review "Dr. Siri, his friends and colleagues are charming, and the puzzle is intriguing."- The Free Lance-Star Praise for the Dr. Siri series: "The consistently fine characterizations of the entire cast are matched by a tightly constructed plot."- Booklist "Glimpses of everyday life in Laos will appeal to those readers curious about a culture unfamiliar to most Americans."- Publishers Weekly, "You get a real feeling for what Laos was like in the '70s. Synopsis
Praise for the Dr. Siri series:"The consistently fine characterizations of the entire cast are matched by a tightly constructed plot."- Booklist"Glimpses of everyday life in Laos will appeal to those readers curious about a culture unfamiliar to most Americans."- Publishers WeeklyThree young Laotian women have died of fencing sword wounds. Each of them had studied abroad in an Eastern bloc country. Before he can complete his investigation, Dr. Siri is lured to Cambodia by an all-expenses-paid trip. Accused of spying for the Vietnamese, he is imprisoned, beaten, and threatened with death. The Khmer Rouge is relentless, and it is touch and go for the dauntless, seventy-four-year-old national-and only-coroner of Laos.Colin Cotterill was born in London in 1952 and taught and trained teachers around the world before settling in Thailand. He spent several years in Laos, initially with UNESCO, before he moved on to become involved in child protection in the region and set up a non-governmental organization in Phuket. He later moved on to ECPAT, an international organization combating child prostitution and pornography. Colin writes and illustrates full time, and lives in Chumphon on the Gulf of Thailand with his wife, Jessi, and a bunch of dogs. He is a Dilys Award winner.

- e***r (10)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufYou can’t always be sure when an item is listed “like new” but this seller delivered a book that is just that. I’m very pleased with the condition of the book and the pricing was excellent compared to other sellers online. It was packaged extremely well and arrived with no wrinkles or folded areas. I made a great purchase and I now look forward to purchasing additional items by this author from this seller. 10/10 satisfaction! The Power of A Praying Wife Omartian, Stormie paperback Used - Like New (Nr. 276668989218)
- b***b (169)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letztes JahrBestätigter KaufAfter two poor experiences with this seller, they exceeded my expectations with this order…hard to believe it was the same seller. The book purchased, identified in their listing as “Very Good”, was, in fact, “Like New”. The price was very fair. Shipping was slow, but that seems to be true with many things purchased in the internet. If I have a complaint, it is that the seller will not respond to specific questions about a listed item before the purchase..too many orders to do so! 🙁The Beginning or the End: How Hollywood―and America―Learned to Stop Worrying an (Nr. 387783000754)
