    Best ever book for kids on living off the land. Adventure is set in New York state.

    Great plot supported by the author's extensive knowledge of nature. Teen aged boy runs away to an abandoned family farm and lives off the land with the aid of a hawk he trains.

    Students in grades 3-7 love this interesting story about a boy who goes to live on his own in the woods. Boys and girls find it fascinating. It is a novel that has stood the test of time .
