Fantastic lens for the money!
I love this lens! I took it to Zion National Park as soon as I bought it and I found the focal length worked great for both portraits and landscapes. Sharp, Fast, Great Value!
This lens is a great companion to an E-mount camera. The picture is sharp and bokeh is nice. The build quality is tank-like, even better than the 19mm 2.8 that Sigma also produces. The only real complaints I have are the barrel distortion and minimum aperture. The first is easy to correct in post, but it's difficult to get a deep DoF from this lens as it only stops down to f/16. On the flip-side, this is a VERY fast lens. Not only is the maximum aperture huge, but the transmissive quality of the lens elements is very high. On my first day of shooting I was surprised that my NEX-6 picked such a high shutter speed and tight aperture, while still choosing ISO100. According to DXOMark, only 1.8 stop of light is adsorbed by this lens, which is stellar. It might be worth tossing an ND filter in your kit, however. Best little 30mm 1.4 for Sony E mounts around
Try this lens before you spend $$$$$...esp if you have a e mount below the A7 line...like a6000. You will love this thing....sharp and the 1.4 is CRAZY with low light....with a crop its 45mm but really good. I also have a 60 2.8 a good one too...but not as good as this. Best lens I've bought so far
This is my second sigma lens I've purchased and it is amazing. It's incredibly sharp, the autofocus does a very good job( 7/10 ), focus ring is very smooth, it's very well built and looks amazing on my a6000. Manual focusing might be frustrating first, but once you get the gist of it you'll be fine. The bundle is totally a huge deal, mostly because of the small sling bag, and the filters that come with it that will help you mostly in very bright days. Noisy in video mode
The lens is quite sharp and sensitive, no complaint in that department. But its noisy in video mode, makes a slight ticking noise audible in the camera mics. Also the autofocus is a bit ragged compared to the Sony 18-105 I have which is precise and quiet, trouble-free. The Sigma tends to start out unfocused, you have to push the shutter button to get it to focus when you first turn on the camera. However, for darker scenes where you'd use separate sound recording anyway, this lens is perfect. If you're looking for better bokeh, for me its a wash between these two lenses as you can simply stand back a bit with the 18-105 and zoom in (despite max f-stop of f4) and get comparable bokeh. The camera (a6500) is so sensitive that you really don't need the extra stops to get a clean image in my opinion. Perhaps the BEST fast lens value for Sony Alpha Cameras!
As you might already be aware, most of the lenses that come with the Sony Alpha cameras aren't the best. Those tend to cost a premium price. As a result, dealing with the lowest f-stop of f-3.5 or smaller is common and not the best for narrow focus ranges, portraits, etc. or low light conditions where you don't want to use a flash. After a little over a week with this beauty, I have to say I'm so glad I made the decision on getting this Sigma 30mm at f-1.4 instead of the Sony 50mm at f-1.8. The wider field of view on my a6000 makes this 30mm more like a 45mm, so it's perfect for general use. The f-1.4 aperture makes taking low light shots easy. Last night at Benihana, with the lights off and flames rising from the stacked onions (if you have kids, you know what I mean), I took some shots I was amazed at. I've also taken lots of flower and nature shots, which are gorgeous, with a tiny depth of focus, so small in some cases that it's only about 1/4" deep when using close-up. Just amazing for highlighting that bee on a flower, etc. I can tell this is going to be one of my favorite lenses for general purposes. I love my other 3 lenses, but this one is what's likely going to be getting the most use. Great lens and the price is great as well with a great depth of field.
This lens is worth the money. Crisp picture and great details. Exactly what I have envisioned for my Sony a6300. I will use it a lot and make the most of it in the years to come. Light and sharp
Bought it to carry around as a light lens. It is well balanced with my a6300 body. Lens makes good landscapes, portraits and close ups. It turns out to be sharp even wide open. Focusing has no problems, face recognition works well.

Tack Sharp and Great Bokeh!
Although it's tack sharp in the middle, it's a little soft around the edges, but compared to the price of a native Sony 30mm lens, the price is well worth it. The F1.8 Aperture makes for great bokeh shots and faster shutter speeds.
