In October 2004, the Boston Red Sox reversed the curse of the Bambino to win their first World Series since 1918. The historic victory came on the heels of an unprecedented American League Championship series with their perennial rivals, the New York Yankees: after three consecutive losses to the Yanks, the Sox rallied to win the next four games and became the first team in baseball history to come from behind in a playoff series. The Sox then went on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals--the team with the best record in 2004--to score their first World Series in 86 years.
