    High-strung, statuesque Nomi Mallone (Elizabeth Berkely) is determined to be a dancer in Las Vegas, whatever it takes--but she starts out as a stripper. Through her seamstress roommate (Gina Ravera), Nomi catches the attention of the voracious bisexual Cristal (Gina Gershon), star of an extravagant pagan sex show called "Goddess" which plays nightly at the swanky Stardust Casino. Through Cristal's influence, Nomi gets a chance to audition for "Goddess" and is soon involved in all sorts of sordid backstage goings-on, including bitchy dueling with Cristal over Stardust head honcho Zack (Kyle McLachlan). Maligned by many critics upon its original release, SHOWGIRLS has since become a true camp classic, revived for midnight showings and beloved for its decadence, high nudity yield, and outrageously catty dialogue (courtesy of screenwriter Joe Eszterhas). Its director is Paul Verhoeven (ROBOCOP, TOTAL RECALL), so one can safely assume SHOWGIRLS' over-the-top hostility and sexuality is meant to be a satire of American culture. One of the first big-budget Hollywood movies to be released with an NC-17 rating, its lack of box office success meant few others would have the guts to follow.

      I purchased to finish a set that was started. When I received I found one of the rest was broken. I promptly took photos and messaged the seller. Within minutes the seller responded and gave me the option of returning or a partial refund. I decided to keep as they matched my current knife rests. Again, seller promptly issued my refund. I must say the items were as described and in original box. The damaged one was no fault of the seller in my option as the packaging was very good.

      So bad it is great!

      Remember seeing this movie at the theater back in my last year of college. The movie seemed so terrible written and overacted by the cast. The girls were very hot though. I noticed that the older I got that the movie is terrible written and overacted but no matter what if it popped up on TV throughout the years I would leave it and not change the channel. It is very cheesy but it is actually so good that it takes several viewings through the years to realize that. It even has a massive cult following now. Evidently Director Paul Verhoeven knew what he was doing after all.

      Thumbs up on this cult classic.

      I can't get enough of this movie. It's one of them 'so bad it's so good' types. I had just one qualm with the DVD itself and that would be the aspect ratio which was extremely off. I had to change the settings & zoom into the picture for full visual effect which in turn distorted the quality of said picture. Alas, it was bearable. Aside from that, all good.

      Gina Gershon steals the show!

      Showgirls is legendary. It's supposedly "All About Eve" in Las Vegas strip clubs. Are the characters engaging? Yes and no. Couldn't care less about the main character played by Elizabeth Berkeley, but Gina Gershon (evoking the Bette Davis turn in All About Eve") was great. Kyle McLaughlin just oozed sleeze. Robert Davi never disappoints and had quite a few amusing lines as the owner of a lower-class strip club. Its one of those movies that's so bad it's entertaining. I hadn't seen it in years and just decided to order a dvd. I don't think you could make this movie now, it would set off too many triggers. But for it's time, it was interesting.

      Showgirls is a sexy thrill Ride... It has lots of thrills and sexy dance scenes It also offers danger and suspense as well as erotic thrillers, showgirls will keep you watching on the edge of your seat until the very end!

      Light porn. They go thru the motions but just show skin. OK storyline and characters. Ending was strange, just my opinion. Not for children.
