In the 21st century, genetic engineering makes possible the creation of biologically superior human specimens ("valids"), who then grow to positions of power and prestige. Would-be astronaut Vincent (Ethan Hawke) born the old-fashioned way, can only hope for a janitorial position at the elite Gattaca Corporation--until he buys the blood, urine, and identity of a perfect but paralyzed athlete. But a murder in the company's ranks attracts the attention of a detective who threatens to sniff Vincent out.

A "Glimpse Into the Future" Movie....
Fascinating tale of what may happen to us in the future if things keep going the way they are today....a kind of extension of "1984".... A tale of people trying to live with the expectations of the world rulers, but some don't "fit the pattern" and improvise.

DNA DOWN TO A SCIENCE!
I loved this movie a movie I could relate to. Gattaca takes place in the near future, were there are two types of individuals. It is a movie about discrimation and genetics. The movie arrived in great condition, but the security tab was placed on the disc. I thought the disc was damaged, and thought DVD/VHS player was ruined. Please do not put security strips on DVD. This was the only problem I had.

Three sub-plots in perfect harmony. Mystery, love & destiny of a man following his impossible dream.
Never heard of this movie until I bought an Avanti, which is one of the cars driven "in the future." Great film! Says a lot about the notion we could actually improve on God's handiwork, without being overtly preachy. Storyline kept you guessing about the "who done it" all the while rooting for the guy working to fulfill his dream.

Inspiring
It is an excellent movie. A great story with a profound meaning for those who have been told they can't be better. It inspires to overcome your obstacles. Ethan Hawke is one of our favorite actors.

If you could, would you genetically engineer your offspring?
One of my daughter's favorite movies. It makes you think a lot about moral and ethical issues. I prefer more action and sitting back and being entertained when watching a movie.

rod serling would be proud
there are six great actors interacting in a multi-level plot. all had to be understated if it was going to work. director pulled it off. great sci fi in the realm of the twilight zone.

A future where everyone is bred to be perfect...
And the main character isn't! The story follows him as he strives to be an astronaut in a world where only the perfect humans can be anything other than a janitor. Almost every child is designed to be the best, strongest, longest living, so how will he make it? Can he make it? An interesting story of drama and humor. Great movie.
