Mikhail Gorbachev and Vladimir Putin were among the audience when ex-Beatle Paul McCartney staged a spectacular show in Russia on May 24, 2003. Amazingly, this is the first time McCartney had played in the country, making it an extra-special occasion, which saw a 100,000-strong crowd gather in Red Square. Playing a mixture of material that included Beatles favorites ("Let It Be," "Hey Jude," "Fool On The Hill"), songs from the Wings-era ("Band on the Run," "Live and Let Die"), and more, this is a great way to witness McCartney's impressive collection of songs in a live setting. Complementing the concert are some historic scenes of McCartney meeting Putin, and a discussion about The Beatles and their incredible impact on Russia's cultural development. But it's the concert footage that really captures the imagination, with McCartney clearly relishing the chance to work through some glittering numbers from his back catalogue, and delighting the enraptured audience in the process.

Paul McCartney in Red Square DVD
Excellent video of Paul's concert in Russia's Red Square. The narrative between songs explaining the difficulties of the Russian people to obtain records in the past makes me appreciate living in the free world. The band's performance is excellent as well as the song selections. One aspect with regard to the editing that I do not like is that it jumps too fast between the band and the individual close ups of the musicians and the crowds. I would rather see more of the band's performance, but I still enjoy the DVD and watch often. A better choice would be McCartney's DVD box set 'Good Evening New York City' which has four discs: one DVD of the Citi Field concert, one DVD with the band performing on the roof of the marque at Ed Sullivan Studios and CD's with the music form the two separate performances allowing listening on the home stereo or while driving in the car.

Great Value
Paul McCartney was Awsome ion Red Square. Banned for decades; the crowd went wild for him, great footage of his concert there; as well as background on the places he visited.

Best Paul McCartney live video. Excellent collection of songs, love the way they mixed in the visits, landscape and interviews, and the sound quality is high.

A legend performs a historic concert
This is a fascinating DVD. It captures a typically outstanding concert by Paul McCartney and his band and also gives some historic perspective on the impact of the Beatles music behind the iron curtain, including scenes of McCartney talking with Gorbachev and Putin walking through the crowd. This is our second copy of this DVD- we lent the first one out and forgot who we gave it to. It's worth having a copy of at all times.

Can't get enough
A decent live concert DVD. Would've liked it better if there were no or fewer interview segments.

Apart from the poor editing, it was entertaining.
Unfortunately, I didn't notice that it was a Region 1 DVD so I can't play it in my Australian Region 4 player, only on my computer. :(
