I got it in a very reasonable time and they were nice to accept my offer for a few dollars cheaper comparable to another I found listed, I was fine with the prices but they did say it was dented up a bit but the box was really a lot dented/ damaged, but the art was mainly in tact and I’m going to build it regardless. So the box not being perfect does not really bother me or affect me too bad, it just wasn’t quite described as bad as it was. Product is new inside and nothing missing though. Thx!

Monogram DO-335 fun
The first and foremost thing, in this and all hobbies, is to remember that you are the only person that has to be happy with the end product. No matter what anybody says as long as you had fun then it was worth the effort. Whether you like an easy out of the box model that looks mostly right or a super detailed miniature, enjoy yourself doing it. My advice is to find your limits and work within them. Find techniques that do work for you and enjoy getting the most out of them. There is no point or fun in trying to do something that does not work for you, it is just frustrating. For me it is figures (ground crew, flight crew), they never turn out how I want them to look, so I just do not do them. There are several modeling magazines out there that have good advice and offer different ... I have assembled three of the Monogram DO-335 model kits over the years, two fighters and one night fighter. It is fairly easy to build and the instructions are easy to read. There are small parts but not a lot. It is an older kit and has raised panel lines and other details. I had a problem with painting the flight deck compartments. Since they are a one piece tub it is difficult to get into some of the details, either holding it the way I needed or getting in my own light. The fit of the engine cowlings is poor, they look like add on panels and filling is not an option. Leaving the cowl open is little better as the engines have little detail and are also hard to paint once the model is assembled, paint them first. However if you do not need to detail or super detail then this will be a good looking cool build with the cowling open. For the Super detailing folks, well you know. The upper fuselage on both versions had a problem with the fit and it took a lot of sanding to get mine to look right. By that time a lot of the raised panel lines had been damaged so be very careful. I lightly sanded the rest of the model to make the rest of the detail less noticeable, it works for me. The wheel wells and landing gear have a normal amount of detail for the age of the kit, raised wire and hydraulic lines for detail, and can be ignored as they are hard to see anyway. There is also the option of closing the landing gear doors. They fit about as well as the engine cowl so be careful, many gluey finger prints appear trying this, additionally the doors on mine needed to be trimmed. Also since there is really nothing to hold on to, the gear doors are hare to place, even with tweezers. There are several techniques to help with this but there is no room for them here. There was some flash around some of the smaller parts and was hard to get off. For what it is, it is a neat addition to a collection just be ready for its size, the DO-335 was a large fighter. The decals fell apart when wet. This is from age and there is little to prevent it from happening so just expect it, if they do not fall apart then good for you! Best idea is to use a piece of decal that will not be used and try it out to see what happens. There are a few things that can be done to limit the damage like spraying them with hair spray or painting them with clear gloss coat or dull coat either enamel or acrylic, a little Pledge Floor Care (Future) goes a long way also. Let them dry! Problem is it can make the decal thick and noticeable on the surface of the model. Getting aftermarket decals is a good option but even then they can be old. I purchased this model for some replacement parts and decals to fix one I had built years ago while still in Junior High. After joining the Air Force and many moves later several parts had been broken and lost. It was restored to all its 1978 hand painted, gluey fingerprinted, yellowed decal glory. I was happy with it and had a lot of fun finding out about the DO-335 and its place in WWII back then . . . brings back great memories now.
