Product Information

A dazzling visual diary of legendary performances, THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT chronicles the development of the Who from angry young mod upstarts to worldwide arena rock icons. Director Jeff Stein (who was just 21 at the time) was given unlimited access to archives of the Who, occasionally butting heads with famously strong-willed guitarist/songwriter Pete Townsend over the direction of the film. It begins with the band's famed guitar-smashing, 1967 American TV debut on The Smothers Brothers show and continues through Monterey Pop, Woodstock, and on into the 1970s as the band cements its "legend" status in the rock canon with such complex works as QUADROPHENIA. Twenty-two classic Who tunes are featured, including a special version of the title track, "My Generation," "Magic Bus," "Happy Jack," and "Long Live Rock." Manic drummer Keith Moon, who provides numerous laughs in the film, died a year before the film was released.

  • Back To Basics?

This DVD is a classic rock history lesson that provides tremendous inspiration for the pop-rock bubbleheads of Generation Y. It also tells us older folks some things we may not have known about the Who, one of the Five Greatest Rock and Roll Bands. Were they the first punk band? Watch them trash the Smothers Brothers studio set, check out some of their outrageous TV interviews, you tell me. The Beatles were slicker and the Stones more sleazy, but as agents of anarchy and chaos, the Who were peerless. Their fledgling genius is awe-inspiring when we look back and see what a tender age they were when they began churning out those timeless classics. We also see how Keith Moon was their standard bearer while Roger Daltrey was still in the process of character development and Pete Townsend ...

  • My friends call me Keith, but you can call me John.

As a longtime Who fan this is a must-have DVD. You are treated to live performances, throughout the career of The Who as well as interviews with Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, Roger Daltrey and of course, Keith Moon! This movie brings out the humor of The Who as well as their musical artistry. Watch Pete smash his guitar. Look at John blowing away gold records with his guns. Laugh as Keith trashes a hotel room. Wonder if Roger ever smacked himself or a bystander, as he swings his mic around. This movie was written and directed by Jeff Stein, a long-time Who fan. Jeff unsettled Pete Townshend by crying, when Pete initially refused to allow the movie. We're all lucky that Pete couldn't bear to see a grown man cry! This movie features Keith Moon's last concert with The Who, ...

  • My band!

The world's greatest rock band!!! I am a WHO freak from way, way back. Like 1965! Yeah, yeah, yeah I'm old. So what. Watch this DVD and you'll understand where I'm coming from. These guys made music which no one has ever confused it with any other bands music. They were unique. I really can't review this film. It would take two books to explain this band. You have to experience them. I first saw this film in 1981. I took a young co-worker to see it in Peoria, Illinois. He had never seen a concert anywhere. When we left the theatre I asked him what he thought and he said he was blown away. It was the most amazing thing he had ever seen! That about sums it up folks.

  • The WHO KIDS ARE ALRIGHT Best rock movie ever. 1979

5 stars: The best Rock-n-Roll movie "Kids Are Alright". I have seen this movie over 200 times at the midnight movie. On the DVD it was good to see the footage cleaned up and to HEAR the music. Now you can really hear Pete Townshends number 1 & 5 guitar. Also unlike the video disc that has cut parts you get the whole WHO story. Only bad part is Jeff Stein's the directors telling you his views, he is dull. Best part of "Kids Are Alright" Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Baba O'Riley" which is KEITH MOON'S last time on drums. This shows why THE WHO are the best live band around. "Who Are You" is different than the album version. There is also a short movie part of The HIGH NUMBERS. aka DETOURS,THE WHO. Also in the movie is RINGO STARR and STEVE MARTIN. A must see for all music fans who never ...

  • This will blow you away!

Sit down every one that calls themselves a rock and roll band and watch this DVD and learn! The style, the look, the personalities, and most important the MUSIC is what makes this such a great movie. I saw this first in 1979, and it still blows me away. The restoration is wonderful, it's never sounded or looked so good. I had seen Rodger and Pete few months ago and have not seen "Kids" in years so bought this DVD. This film has stood the test of time and rocks like no other. Get the DVD, a big screen, and crank up the sound. Let the neighbors call the cops, it's worth it for this one!
