Based on a strange premise, British TV show JONATHAN CREEK has nevertheless found an audience among fans of similarly themed crime dramas such as CRACKER and INSPECTOR MORSE. The story begins when journalist Madeline Magellan (Caroline Quentin) is snooping around and meets Jonathan Creek (Alan Davies). Creek invents magic tricks for a prominent magician, and Magellan uses his ingenuity to help her crack a particularly puzzling case she is working on. The two subsequently team up for more crime-solving riddles, and frequent hints of romance between the pair gently tease the audience throughout. This release includes the entire first season of the show.

Reporter meets Magic
I've always liked Alan Davies on QI so was glad to get the first season of 'Jonathan Creek'. It is a funny but heartwarming murder mystery. Yes, heartwarming because Jonathan is so befuddled by his writer cohort in solving murders that we see for the first time, he might have some tender emotions and so might she. I don't care for the smarmy magician, but the actor plays smarmy well so he's quite a contrast to the quiet, brilliant person responsible for his fantastic magic tricks. I like the series and may try to find the rest just to see what happens to this odd couple.
