Mystery in the Alfred Hitchcock tradition
If you like Alfred Hitchcock's suspense films, especially PSYCHO, you'll enjoy this movie. The black and white photography enhances the creepy atmosphere. A four-year-old girl is missing from a daycare center, although no one --- except her mother and her uncle --- remembers seeing her.
Ever. Does Bunny Lake even exist, or has she fallen victim to one of the adult characters? Don't miss the scene in the basement of the doll-repair shop! With different lead actors, I'd give this film a solid five stars. But the somewhat wooden performances of Carol Lynley and Keir Dullea mar an otherwise brilliant production. You could argue that their characters are supposed to be odd, so it is fitting that they seem a bit "off." However, there is more to acting than memorizing your lines and reciting them. Lynley and Dullea often sound as if they're simply parroting lines, without the necessary passion behind them.
