Stay Rite Stack Flue SVC Kit: It works, but leads are smaller gauge wire.
I had a rat get into my heater box recently. It chewed through the plastic heat box near the flue pipe outlet and then destroyed the white wires on the PENTAIR Stack Flue sensor, down to the head of the bolt. Luckily that's all it chewed. It did so to enlarge the access it got through the exhaust port hole.
During start up the E05 error message appeared with no heat, and an override shutdown. I Google searched and found this part, and blog notes that one should use an OEM PENTAIR part (ranging from $70-$150) because some other brands yield poor results. It appeared to me this was an OEM part from the EBAY post Pics. When I received the item, I was initially disappointed since THESE white wires are of a much smaller gauge ( a single strand of wire) than the ones leading to the sensor in the heater box. I had to splice the Male end connectors on my white wire leads since the rat had chewed them off. No big deal. They attached using the existing wire connectors just fine. The wire leads appear to have the same LOAD capabilities (see results below). The threads of this sensor look to be as good of quality as the original. The sensor worked fine the first time I went through the start up sequence today, as the heater fired and ran for a 20 minute trail before I shut it down.. I reinforced the heater box with with some light sheet metal to keep the rat from chewing another entry hole. I also put poison bait inside the heater box. We'll see if this STACK FLU SENSOR PART continues to last as we use our spa this fall. Fingers crossed.
