Victim of the Volume Wars
I have been a fan of Collective Soul for a long time. I really like the band's music. I am terribly disappointed by the treatment of their music on this compact disc. The mastering was done with a brick wall limiter that was set to heavy compression. The sound is so dense that it just sounds like noise. I pulled it into a computer program that displays the waveform and most of the songs were a solid mass of waves at maximum amplitude. Unfortunately I cannot enjoy the music because the recording just sounds horrible. It is a terrible trend in music these days that they maximize the volume at the recording source instead of taking advantage of the clarity of the digital format. I will be searching for this album on a vinyl edition because, in my experience, the volume war problem is a rare occurrence in vinyl. My review is not a reflection on the music itself because the mix made it unpalatable. I still like Collective Soul.

The very best of Collective Soul
One of my favorite bands of all times and this is the best collection I've ever found of their work. Don't miss this one if you like this band!!
