Director Curtis Hanson captures the duality of 1950s Los Angeles in this striking film noir adaptation of James Ellroy's novel. The City of Angels might be sunny, inviting, and glamorous to the rest of the world, but it's also filled with corrupt cops, elegant hookers, murder cover-ups, and manipulative paparazzi, all of which are just the tip of the iceberg. It's impossible to know exactly who's trustworthy and who's not as three detectives (Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, and Guy Pearce) each use their own tactics to investigate a coffee-shop massacre.The script by Hanson and Brian Helgeland maintains the fragile framework of human relationships developed in the novel, while 45 different shooting locations give the film a solidly unique tone and feeling of integrity, immersing the viewer in 1950s Los Angeles. The entire cast is first-rate, with compelling performances from Spacey, Crowe, Pearce, James Cromwell, Danny DeVito, Kim Basinger, and David Strathairn.

    L A Confidential

    Kevin Spacey, Kim basinger, and several other top leading actors head up this cast. From a Snoopy photographer to a police hit squad , to corrupt police officers, and a corrupt D.A. prostitutes who are taken to plastic surgeons so they appear to be movie star look alikes. It all opens at the nite owl murders and ends when a young ambitious police lieutenant exposes all the corruption within his precinct. A great drama and action movie. No nudity but alot of racy words and imuendos. Still by far as it is worth putting on your shelf to watch.

    One of the best ever.

    One of the truly great movies of all time. Loosely based on true events and real characters, L.A. Confidential involves you in the story and lets you live vicariously during the era in which the events occur. This movie catapulted Australian Russell Crowe to stardom and put fellow Aussie Guy Pearce on the map. Bonus video material is substantial, entertaining, and informative, as well.

    GREAT BUDDY MOVIE

    It takes more than half of this movie before Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce team up to get the "bad guy" in the police department where they work, but once they do, the level of trust between them brings about the battlefield finale of this wonderfully plotted, lit, photographed and directed movie. The acting throughout is wonderful, too.

    I say it is a CLASSIC.

    As close to perfect as a movie can be in every way. Buy it, you will enjoy a superbly written, well acted by a stellar cast. Interesting, engaging and satisfying.
