The microphone on top of the camera allows you to capture audio recordings with stereo sound while you are filming a video. You can also capture still shots while recording a video with a press of the shutter button. The 3-inch wide, 921,000-dot, high-resolution LCD monitor clearly displays pictures, videos, and menu options. It comes with an anti-glare coating for maximum visibility. You can edit your movies directly on the COOLPIX S8100. With an HDMI output, you can watch your movies on a computer or on HDTV.The Nikon COOLPIX S8100 cameras have a built-in 10x wide-angle, optical zoom, NIKKOR ED glass lens. You can also use a telephoto lens. The normal focus range for these lenses is 1 foot 8 inches to infinity. Its macro focus range is 0.4 inch to infinity. This allows you to zoom in for a close-up photo or take wide landscape pictures. It has a fixed ISO sensitivity from 160 to 400, but it can be set as high as 3200. This makes it good for low light shooting. Its shutter speed of 1/4000 to 1/120 seconds makes shooting fast-moving subjects easy.This Nikon also has an auto and manual white balance option, so you can get the most accurate colors in your photographs. Its pop-up flash has an effective range of 1.6 feet to 13 feet, and the flash modes are auto, fill-in, off, red-eye reduction, and slow sync.     Good versitile pocket camera with all the bells and whistles

    Going on vacation and did not want to carry heavy DSLR camera outfit so bought this. After using it for a week or so I it is up to the task. Lightweight, full of features, nice all around point and shoot camera. As far as being a point and shoot pocket camera all its features are easy to use, especially the video option, easier than my DSLR cameras. One concern I had was was the image size. My latest DSLR is a 24 mpix which when I am using it for parties and just family pictures produces a large image, even to manipulate even in PhotoShop. The 12.1 mpix is more than sufficient for what I need on a vacation. Just a comment for those who may have vision issues as I do, I am so used to using a viewfinder that using the display to frame the picture takes some practice, as it would with ...

    Small camera, big value

    An old design, I bought this one as a backup for my 10 year old S8100 that is showing its age. Great pocket camera for snapshots, Facebook, and Ebay. 10:1 zoom is plenty of telephoto, macro setting for great closeups, and plenty of resolution for online posting. Compact cameras cannot compete with SLRs for ultimate image quality but neither can most monitors display really high resolution. Great depth of field for product shots. I sell and trade vintage cameras, the S8100 is perfect. Also has usable 720p video that my grandsons enjoy. Surprisingly tough for a pocket camera, more rugged than the model that replaced it. I've taken more than 25,000 shots with mine and it still works as it always did.

    Just the right size.

    A first class pocket or purse camera. Takes excellent pictures. The zoom feature is great and easy to use. An excellent choice for a pocket camera.

    Replaced Nikon Coolpix S8100 With Identical Model
