Fastners work great
Easy to use...keeps boards straight and parrell(if your deck is built square)....if face nailing wood decking, you can vary the spacing an 1/8" here and there to compensate for deck framing that is out of square....an inch out of square is hardly noticeable with wood as over a width of 15 or more boards, you can fudge and get it back on track.....with composite and these fastners that keep a consisent 3/16" gap, no such choice.....they make installing edge grooved decking a simple task. With this system, the installer can install grooved edge p,anking and these fastners to check spacing.....a top quality deck framer abd builder that's familiar with these fastners, can frame the deck to the exact size so only full width planks are used....I wasn't as fortunate when I replaced wood with composite as I got down to the last 4 or 5 boards and saw .i was going go end up with a 2" space if i used full width planks so i ripped a quarter to half an inch off of the last 4 planks., rounded the edge slightly with my rouger and grooved that edge of my table saw so the fastners had a place to grab......a lot of work buy it takes a keen eye to tell the last few planks are slightly narrower than the rest.......So, I highly recommend these fastners...the long upright installation tool saves the knees....very important since my 71 year old knee joints aren't ss flexible ss they once were
