    A story about following one's dream and not someone else's

    Great movie about the power of love, tolerance, overcoming inner conflicts in the face of gender stereotypes, social expectations, and being true to ones self. The setting is 1984 Northern England. The youngest of a coal miner’s two sons is expected to follow the family tradition of learning boxing, becoming a third generation successor to a pair of boxing gloves. During a boxing class in the school gymnasium, the young boy is captivated by the activities of a ballet class in session at the opposite end. This begins the story of a young boy’s passion for dance, prevailing over all obstacles to achieve his ultimate dream.

    A good entertaining movie!

    Other than the grown up Billy Elliot looked disgusting, it is a very good movie to pursue one's dream. And the family support is very important, too!

    Outstanding story and characters!

    Billy Elliot is a human story about a young boy who aspires to become a professional ballet dancer, set in a coal mining town in England. In a world where iron, steel and mining, are the bread and butter work for over men and their families who work deep below the ground in blackness, spanning generations, centuries old traditions, without escape, without reprieve, this movie brings bright radiant sunshine, hope and beauty!

    too much unnecessary language

    other than the unnecessary language this is a great movie. too bad i can not give it a 5 star for that reason because the language is what makes it family or not. take the language out and it's a 5 star all the way.

    I LAUGHED, I CRIED, A WONDERFUL MOVIE!

    Owning on video & seen a few years ago, upgrading to DVD was a must.This is a well written, excellently acted and photographed film with top notch performances.Every principle actor in this movie gets five ⭐s from me! Taking place in '84 during England's miners strike, the emotions run high.Truly engaging film.Have Kleenex nearby, it's that good! Highly recommend this movie!
