Fast shipping, exactly as described/pictured. This was a vintage pencil sharpener like the one my mom had. Even tho it's not the exact one she had, it still reminds me of her. Plus, it sharpens better than the new xacto and bostich sharpeners I tried. It was packaged with bubble wrap and packing peanuts so well that Ace Ventura (pet detective) could have been the delivery driver and it still would've arrived in perfect condition. (Worth a YouTube search) Very thankful for this seller.

A Treat for Anyone Who Loves Animals
James Herriot is the pen name of the world's most famous veterinarian, a wise and genial man who for decades devoted his life to healing farm animals and pets in the Yorkshire region of Eng;land. Famous? His 'surgery' as any medical office is called in England, is now a museum-cum-shrine in the still-quaint market town of Thirsk. In his books he relates a life's worth of anecdotes and reminiscences as he grew from a callow new-minted vet to a revered figure among his clients, many of who were crusty old-timers with distinctly backward views. Ripe with wisdom and good humor, his books will delight and charm any animal-lover. FYI his work is carried on today by a vet he trained himself, and his assistant and nurses, who are the subject of an excellent British TV series, The Yorkshire Vet, on ... You Will Love James Herriot
James Herriot was a British Country veterinarian who loved what he did, and was apparently very good at it. He started writing in the 1960's with limited success, when someone said he should write in first-person about what he does for a living. The books are as much about the humans he dealt with as much as they are about his patients, the animals, The public loved (loves) the books, and they were translated into something like 70 languages. Although James Herriot (real name was Alf Wight) had never had much money before authoring the books, suddenly he became very wealthy. Until his death in 1995, he maintained his veterinary practice, and always told people he was a vet, rather than an author. Humble to the end. The books for the American market are simply the shorter British books combined (although they do have different titles). This set has the British versions of the books. I am probably on my third or fourth time through my books, and I bought this set for my girlfriend. She loves them. I hope you will too.

The actual books being named differently not really an issue for me. My issue was they came out of order and that has to be an easy thing to check. But my main issue is the “typeface” used. It looks like these pages were not meant for bibliophiles but copied on a simple office machine. Boldish, fuzzy, maybe even wavy lines of copy. Would it really have been too much trouble to use an elegant font? The horrible type lends credence to reading on a tablet instead. Which is blasphemy. Our family has always loved these books and wore our old set out. Replacements were not easy to find. I gave this set to my daughter for her birthday and she was delighted!

I have loved this series since I first received All Creatures when I was a child. Alas, my copies have not aged well and were in need of replacement. I also got a set for my niece who adores all animals. Thank you.
