Reviews
"Eleven papers critically analyze the social organization of time devoted to the care of family members, especially young children and the elderly." -"Journal of Economic Literature, 12/2004, 'How we spend our time - especially as more and more of us feel like we have less and less of it - is of vital theoretical and practical importance. The essays in this volume refreshingly call into question traditional theories about the allocation of time as well as the ways in which time is measured. By focusing on family care time, these essays shed new light on ways to think about reconciling the work/family dilemma.' - Randy Albelda, University of Massachusetts Boston, USA, and author of Economics and Feminism: Disturbances in the Field 'Any one who wants to understand what we really do with our time, how we care for others, and how public policy affects our choices, needs to read this book. These provocative essays raise critical questions that all of us need to answer.' - Heidi I. Hartmann

Synopsis
Time is not money! If anything, it is MORE important than money. The time we have to care for one another, especially for our children and our elderly, is more precious to us than anything else in the world. Yet we have more experience accounting for money than we do for time. In this volume, leading experts in analysis of time use from across the globe explore the interface between time use and family policy. They show how social institutions limit the choices that individuals can make about how to divide their time between paid and unpaid work. They challenge conventional surveys that offer simplistic measure of time spent in childcare or elder care. They summarize empirical evidence concerning trends in time devoted to the care of family members and debate ways of assigning a monetary value to this time. This important book is well researched, well thought through, and well written. It will be highly regarded amongst those interested in the sociology and economics of the family, as well as those with a general interest in gender studies., The time we have to care for one another, especially for our children and our elderly, is more precious to us than anything else in the world. Package arrived from Skokie, IL to southeast Michigan in three days. Book was wrapped well in an large outer plastic mailing envelope and in a second large plastic mailing envelope inside . Book was in the condition described and even has the errata sheet insert. I had no problems with the seller, and I would buy from them again. Good sale.

Seller was great. Had a slight problem with some damage that wasn't in the description that had slipped through their inspections but it was quickly resolved. Even despite the small issue I would definitely recommend. Shipping was timely and item was well packaged.
