Beautiful pieces of history in a story!
The lady telling the story is in a nursing home. She ( the elderly lady) is in good health but is staying to help take care of her dear friend. Second actress is a woman whom is struggling in a marriage whom feels lost and is easily taken advantage of. The married woman’s child just left college leaving her trying to full fill a love with her husband that she felt was a task. It shows her going to woman’s groups, dressing sexy, doing anything to learn to flame up the marriage, but comes to find her husband just comes in everyday. Grabbing his hot meal and her trying to get him to notice anything or even just eat dinner at the table with her yet, he grabs his plate. Ignoring her just to watch “the game” making her feel lost for purpose and more needy. anywho: The two main character meet at ... The lady telling the story is in a nursing home. Izzy who is the story teller finds her waiting and starts telling her about a girls past named Izzy. The wife gets very involved in the stories to the point she makes friends with the resident and comes back weekly to hear the many stories of this Izzy’s past. The wife admires how brave the Izzy girl is in her life. Through slavery and hard times losing family etc. Showing the married lady that all she needed was confidence through her stories. After the two meet a few times. The wife learns the stories and history/ back ground of this historic girl Izzy that was a tomboy young, did everything different from the rest of the town in those times and gets inspired. Learning the many adventures of Izzy opening a black white service restaurant that wasn’t approved by many in them times with a best friend (she saved from an abusive relationship that ended in divorce) rule breaker for those times: the more she told the wife the more the wife worked on her self esteem, fixing herself instead of the marriage, she couldn’t fix. Helping the wife to find courage through the Izzy that lived by her own rules. The wife finds herself losing weight, building self esteem, finally finding her voice Towards her husband, telling him the marriage was also about her and that he needed to straighten up or else, and gets a job. Proving hero’s exist while awakening this woman in all areas of her life. She was empowered. They find a bond and friendship that beautiful. helping each other rise above any issues of lonely with simple stories of bravery and what our ancestors endured. The married woman finds out her friend ( the elderly ladies friend) passed so “Izzy” the elderly lady, leaves the nursing home. The married woman starts asking the residence where she went when she comes to visit only to find out the old lady left the nursing home with no clue her house having been condemned. The married woman shoots off to find her in the town and place that the elderly lady told all her stories to find out that the elderly lady is indeed the brave woman in the stories Izzy. She is astonished but excited that she was meeting the woman who inspired her In her life. She offers her to come home with her and the friendship lives on. The story goes back and fourth with a lot of history of overcoming slavery and issues we face today. Beautiful movie!

A Great movie. Educational, entertaining, funny at times and Kathy Bates as well as Jessica Tandyare great actors. saw this several years ago on Dish network and had to have a copy for my collection. Was surprised to see "Fried Green Tomatoes on the menu at a small restaurant while on the way to the Oregon coast. Ordered a side of fried green tomatoes ----------------and they were delicious !

I love the movie but not this one as it is flawed.
I got to the part where Ruth was dying and it just stopped and I couldn't get it to go forward so I missed the last part which made me quite upset, so that is why I gave it 2 stars out of 5. I don't understand as it was a new movie but somehow it must have been damaged and not by me. I have seen the movie before and love it is why I bought it but this is quite frustrating, not being able to see the rest of the movie.I got to the part where Ruth was dying and it just stopped and I couldn't get it to go forward so I missed the last part which made me quite upset, so that is why I gave it 2 stars out of 5. What a GREAT movie!
I loved this movie. One of the characters could have been me. The movie made me laugh, made me cry and caused me to rethink a few things in my own life. This movie is very entertaining and the ending surprised the heck out of me. I would highly recommend this movie.

"Very entertaining"
One of my all time favorite movies. Great acting, drama and a lot of laughs. I watch it a lot! Definitely a "feel good" movie to enjoy.
