Very Enjoyable Mastering
Some Japanese SHM's (such as "Layla", for instance) sound way too bright for my tastes, despite having a system that's tipped to the warm side of neutral along with a Schiit Loki tone control. I haven't heard the most recent Rhino remastering of Moondance and I don't know whether this SHM utilizes the same mastering. I have read complaints about the Rhino mastering in terms of the horns being excessively lowered in volume, though, and I wouldn't say this is true true of this SHM-- not on my system, at least. The presentation is warm but clear and the soulful quality of the music really shines through. Could one ask for more detail? Yes, I suppose so, but the bottom line is, I find this very emotionally involving, which in the end is what's most important to me.
