A Wealth of Information on Woody Plants
The author, Michael Dirr, is the guru of woody plants. He has written many books on the subject, including one on Viburnums and one on Hydrangeas. His books are used in college horticulture courses, which is where I first became familiar with his works. As a landscape designer, I have five of his books and use them constantly. Dr. Dirr has a lifetime of experience in horticulture, particularly trees and shrubs, and he is my go-to for any information I need in my own field. This particular book delivers a very comprehensive collection of trees and shrubs for southern planting zones. There are wonderful photos of each plant and the descriptions are full of information such as growth habit, height and width, rate of growth, pruning times and so much more.
