SynopsisThis is the amazing story in words and images of the historic discovery of the wreck of Ernest Shackleton's Endurance , deep beneath the ice of Antarctica. In March 2022, an international polar expedition team made an astonishing find- the wreck of Ernest Shackleton's legendary Endurance , lost in 1915 after being crushed by ice and then swallowed by the Weddell Sea. The harrowing story of Shackleton's survival and rescue of all 27 men aboard is well known, but the ship has lain unseen for a century, 10,000 feet underwater-until now. The vessel remains incredibly intact, as crystal-clear photography and digital scans from the expedition reveal. A thrilling firsthand account of the expedition coauthored by its leader and deputy leader, this is the first and only book to fully document the discovery, produced in full cooperation with the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust., Catastrophe struck Sir Ernest Shackleton's crew in 1915 when powerful Antarctic ice crushed their ship, Endurance, and left them stranded. Thus began an improbable journey of survival, but only after the men watched their ship sink into the Weddell Sea. More than a century later, another team ventured south, determined to find whatever remained of the world-famous shipwreck. The Endurance22 expedition-led by polar explorer and geographer John Shears and subsea engineer Nico Vincent-braved the freezing cold to deploy the most advanced underwater exploration technology in the quest to find Endurance. On March 5,2022, they accomplished their mission. In these pages, Shears and Vincent recount their intrepid voyage: their use of Shackleton's historic records for clues about where Endurance sank, key scientific discoveries made along the way, their frustration as instruments failed, and their joyful moment of triumph as the elusive wreck finally came into focus. With a breathtakingly detailed foldout image of Endurance as it now looks on the ocean floor, plus close-ups revealing recognizable artifacts still resting amid the debris, this book takes you along with the Endurance22 team on their journey to discover one of history's most famous sunken shipwrecks.

  • Must have if you enjoy Shackleton and the Endurance story

This book is very well written and documented. There are many of the original pictures from the Endurance as well as those from the search process. To read all the interviews from those that returned from the shipwreck helped to make the story more real. Great book.
