Excellent version of the Dark Knight saga
Frank Miller is already known for doing some fantastic movies, comic books and graphic novels. Batman The Dark Knight Returns is one of my favorite Batman film. Like most of Miller's work it explores the darker side of the Batman saga. A very interesting twist is Robin is a girl. The artwork and animation is great and presents the tale in a style that only Miller can do. The 2 bonus disks are really enjoyable and is full of feature that go behind the scenes and takes you deeper into into the story. Plus they go into Batmans history by adding a documentary The Bob Kane story. Although this is also offered as a 2 separate DVD chapters you lose out on all the extra features and movie cards. Possibly Frank Miller's Last Best Work!
This is a great Adaptation of the landmark Frank Miller Comic from 1984L: The Dark Knight Returns. The art and story are faithful to the book which is no mean feat. Tho Miller's work has largely gone downhill since this comic was published, (the sequel: DK2 seemed an unnecessary sequel and largely was written and drawn to get work for his wife who is a colorist), this was Miller in his prime. The Dark Knight Returns has largely been strip-mined by Directors like Tim Burton who really don't know much about comic books but want to climb the Hollywood ladder. Such Directors take assignments such as Batman 1989 for the big money attached to such projects and because studios want "name recognition" on a production (because studios also don't understand or even care about comic books so they ... Here we have the original product at full potency and not watered down as most DC film projects are. You could do well to ignore productions like Justice League and the Batman film yet to come out, if it ever does, starring Robert Patterson, and just buy this. Well animated and better than most of the live action Batman films since the Nolan bros. left the franchise. The Dark Knight Returns has a fast moving story and plenty of action in it. It truly shows that animation can be mature and provide enjoyable entertainment for adults. A lesson most animation studios have yet to learn.

Pretty faithful to the original subject matter. Very good adaptation.
My only real complaint was the absence of the inner monologues. I understand why they were omitted, but I'm still wishing they had done a cut with the inclusion of them. Especially in the mutant leader fights. Thats mostly just me nitpicking. Awesome flick overall.

Great good, stuck to the comic
This is probably one of my favorite Batman movies. It followed the comic very closely, which meant showing the political and moral undertones and struggle very well. It explores Bruce as a person to a good extent too. Even the 80s soundtrack was fitting, and really added to it! The only thing I didn't like was Jokers voice (and my wife says it's a bit violent (it is, but mostly not over the top)). Overall great film!This is probably one of my favorite Batman movies. Great port of the graphic novel.
They did a great job of translating this to animation, in many cases going word-for-word from the graphic novel. If you enjoy the source material you will love this.
