Product Information

Skeptical journalist John Baxter (Tony Roberts) and photographer Melanie (Candy Clark) expose a fraudulent medium who is operating in the infamous Amityville haunted house. Then John surprises Melanie by deciding to buy the house and live in it. John's estranged wife, Nancy (Tess Harper), is also surprised, then disturbed, when John encourages their daughter, Susan (Lori Loughlin), to visit. The house attacks visitors with horrors that include insects and extreme cold and heat. Eventually, parapsychologist Eliot West (Robert Joy) comes to investigate.AMITYVILLE 3-D jettisons the Roman Catholic trappings of its two predecessors (THE AMITYVILLE HORROR and AMITYVILLE II: THE POSSESSION). In its place is a conflict that pits rationalism (the skeptical journalist) and science (the parapsychologist) against the evil, supernatural house. Director Richard Fleischer used 3-D in making his 1953 Western ARENA and, reportedly, he used it very effectively for AMITYVILLE 3-D. However, in spite of its title, on its nontheatrical releases AMITYVILLE 3-D remains obstinately flat. Fleischer's lively cast includes a young Meg Ryan in one of her first screen appearances.

    mediocre and hum-drum

    At the time this movie was made it was probably a great gimmick to release the third film in the series in 3-D (as with Jaws 3 and Friday the 13th Part 3). Also in order to make the film more 'kid-friendly', the producers shot for a PG rating totally going against the well earned R of the second film. Ok ok thats fine. I can live with the 3-D and the PG rating, but what about the film. The film itself is the real problem as it is so hum drum and mediocre. The story has a reporter who is stubborn and "refused to believe the stories" and buys the historic haunted house. Everyone else sees the spooks except him and predictable outcomes occur. The plot is just tame and predictable. There are many sub-plots that don't work too hot either, like that re-occuring "demon" thing. A lady developes a ...

    Amityville horror 3D scary or bland.

    This movie is overall good except it's kinda drawn out and has no real scary feel to it other than the demon coming out of the well scene and Laurie Laughlin walking upstairs dripping wet as a ghost. I felt my Amityville horror collection was incomplete without this film that is why I purchased it Would this be ok for the kiddies to watch? Absolutely.. no nudity or extreme gore.

    Amityville Horror It Is, 3-D It Isn't

    Warning- This is not a 3D movie, no matter what the title says, so don't get your hopes up. Man, I wish I could have seen this in the theatre because it was probably a better movie in 3D. You'll recognize a very young Meg Ryan as a friend to Lori Loughlin (Aunt Becky from the 80s TV show Full House). Not a particularly great movie, even as far as 80s horror goes this is average or below. The hole in the basement is a bit stupid and blatent. There is a scene, however, where Lori Loughlin's character comes into the house dripping wet. That scene is goosebump-inducing.
