New Mexico: the early '40s. As the entire world is plunged into war for a second time, Antonio M�rez (Luke Ganalon) grapples with the harsh realities all around him. His life is forever changed by the sudden arrival of Ultima (Miriam Colon), a woman with supernatural healing powers, who has come to his family on a mission of kindness. As Ultima inspires Antonio to question authority and see the world from a new perspective, the young boy witnesses a series of seemingly impossible events that have a profound impact on his concepts of divinity and fate.

    Item was packaged in a soft envelope, which luckily was supplemented by a heavy amount of bubble wrap, thus saving it from being destroyed by a postal employee. Really lucky it didn't get cracked, my postman likes to shove envelope type packages in my mailbox even when they don't fit. But, the item did arrive in mint condition, exactly as described, and with the slipcover too! Price was fantastic for an out of print disc. Since it arrived in mint condition, I'm a happy customer. Thanks! A+

    Read the book first, then the movie has more meaning.

    I recommend that everyone read the book first prior to watching the movie. The book is much more detailed and you will miss a lot of the meaning of scenes without the background knowledge. The book is a quick read and it helps if you have a little knowledge of the Mexican culture....even if you don't it will make you want to learn. This book and movie are great even interesting for students in Chicano studies to learn more about their past and understand how certain beliefs came to be.

    Grande was protrayed as the earth mother a healer and the title fit the character....like all Grande's natural healers and teachers of the earth.

    I was introduced to the book during the 70's at NMSU, in Las Cruces Nm, in a Southwest Literature class and carried it through 27 years of teaching in NM. With using the movie as a Grand finale of the culture of Northern NM. The product was of good quality and shipment and packaging was done well.
